Sparing a few, most movies are made only with the intent of making money. Cinema is undoubtably one of the biggest money raking businesses and everyone who has a few lakhs to spare doesn't mind taking the gamble. We have corporates and individuals loaded with cash willing to take movies, not caring about quality and class. Cheap flicks with gory violence, cheap comedy and obsenely clothed women are what we get.
The mass man and his masala is the other kind that gets made by the dozen. Every actor - established or novice - sports an unkempt look, chants a string of punch dialogs, fights a zillion thugs and saves the day. One look at the poster and you'll know what to expect. You can even tell the story!
Everyone is occupied with making money that they prefer to take the trodden path than try something new. The worst part is that most often even those who choose the trodden path get lost, never to be found!!
Ask the makers why they take such cliched flicks and they say that's wot the audience want! They forget that it was the same audience that applauded movies like Mozhi, Sethu, Paruthi Veeran, Kadhal and a whole lot of off beat ones.
We pick from what we are given. Give us a well made, though provoking entertainer and we will make it a super hit!
